S. RICHMOND,
VA - Mr. Dan Collins, CTP (Certified Turfgrass Professional),
the NaturaLawn® of America franchisee for Richmond, Virginia was
instrumental in representing the green industry's interest in altering
extremely tight water restrictions in Chesterfield County, Virginia.
While surrounding counties of Hanover and Henrico had already instituted
water restrictions, Chesterfield County went beyond these by mandating
absolutely no watering of lawns, thus While many businesses appeared to be ready to accept the new restrictions and attempt to carry on business as usual, business was not as usual for the local franchisee, Mr. Collins who presented a strong green industry case to the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors. Voicing a forceful opinion and presenting factual information against local watering restrictions, the board ended up siding 3-2 with Mr. Collins allowing the watering of newly seeded or over-seeded lawns effective until October 31, 2002. This incident of public and industry leadership by Mr. Collins not only helped NaturaLawn of America, but also local lawn care competitors too, as was evidenced when Wayne Meade, General Manager of Lawn Doctor of Chesterfield, sent Mr. Collins a thank you for effectively expressing his opinion while representing the lawn care industry as a whole. Mr. Collins impressed the board with such factual information, that Renny Busch-Humphrey, board member of Mantoaca District, requested Mr. Collins be called upon to represent the county in the absence of the local extension agent. The new water restriction for turf grass professionals is effective immediately and will run through October 31, 2002, allowing daily watering of seeded lawns. Headquartered in Frederick, Maryland, NaturaLawn of America currently has 55 independently owned franchise locations serving environmentally concerned customers in 24 states. ## |
