Frederick, Maryland, (April 30, 2004)— Mr. Philip Catron, president and founder of NaturaLawn of America, testified for the Congressional hearing for the Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform and Oversight of the Committee on Small Business of the United States House of Representatives in Washington D.C. The hearing entitled, “Small Business Creating Jobs and Protecting the Environmen t” took place on April 22, 2004 at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington D.C. NaturaLawn of America was the only nationally known lawn care company and one of only three Green Gazelle businesses invited to testify. Green Gazelles are small fast growing profitable businesses that also significantly benefit the environment. Mr. Catron's testimony to the House Representatives and Congress explored environmentally friendly lawn care alternatives for homeowners and businesses nationwide. The presentation by Mr. Catron highlighted barriers, developments, and growths faced by NaturaLawn of America. He also showcased the main philosophy of organic-based lawn fertilization. This concept is used in conjunction with a specially designed Integrated Pest Management program (IPM), as opposed to traditional chemical fertilizers and unnecessary applications of synthetic pesticides. The testimony also drew eager attention to NaturaLawn ® of America's new “NP” formulation, which is a breakthrough compound containing millions of beneficial soil microbes that work within the soil to slowly release “bound up” phosphorus as the plants need it. This scientific development, amongst others, will have significant environmental benefits to ponds, lakes, and waterways that have experienced problems in the past with algae blooms caused by excessive phosphorus levels in fertilizers. Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, 6th District Maryland, extended his congratulations to this innovative company for its success in helping to protect the environment! “NaturaLawn of America identified a product that would have popular appeal. [They] made a product people want and is beneficial to the environment!” Providing testimony along with NaturaLawn of America, were the Small Business Association, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Green Gazelles; Aquapoint, a wastewater treatment company with a concentration on watershed management and EvCo, a company that specializes in the development of innovative chemistry best typified in coatings, adhesives, binders, and other polyester products based on recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate). All three companies stressed their long-term economic growth, environmental impacts and actions that have been implemented and how they have minimized what has entered our precious environment. From their start in 1987, NaturaLawn of America has grown to become the 4 th largest lawn care company in the United States. They are headquartered in Frederick, Maryland and currently have over 73 independently owned franchise locations servicing environmentally concerned customers in 27 states.
