Studies Show One Pound of Phosphorus Can Generate 500 Pounds of Algae Leading To Fish Kills

National Lawn Care Company Works To Control Problem

Frederick, Maryland, (April 6, 2004 )—Studies show that even as little as one pound of phosphorus can cause 500 pounds of algae and cost over $200 a pound to remove from our fragile waters! NaturaLawn of America, the leader in organic-based lawn care, recognized this dangerous problem and developed a special proprietary powder, NP, which will eliminate the need for additional and unnecessary phosphorus applied to lawns.

Many states are recognizing this potentially dangerous problem associated with high phosphorus levels and have implemented laws against the use of additional phosphorus in lawn care. Although phosphorus is important in plant life, too much on the lawns can be harmful. Many soils across the United States already contain high levels of phosphorus, which becomes bound up in the soil and is therefore unavailable to plant life. Phosphorus can leech into waterways causing algae blooms and leading to suffocation of aquatic life.

NaturaLawn® of America's proprietary formulation of NP will be incorporated into fertilizers that are mandated by the states that require little to no phosphorus. As a standard lawn care practice, NaturaLawn of America always starts with a soil test to identify phosphorus levels and the customer's program will be adjusted according to the lawn's needs.

NaturaLawn® of America's current programs-- Natural Alternative® and Alternative® are based on the use of natural and organic-based techniques and specially formulated treatments for their customers lawns. By using NaturaLawn® of America's lawn care programs customers can help reduce unnecessary chemical use that can threaten the delicate ecosystem by starting right in their own backyards.

NaturaLawn of America was founded in 1987 and is currently headquartered in Frederick, Maryland. They have 72 lawn care franchises servicing environmentally concerned customers in 27 states.
