NaturaLawn of America Selected to
Join
EPA Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program
NaturaLawn of America announced it has been selected to become members of the Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program (PESP), an EPA maintained group of businesses committing to reduce the amount of pesticides entering our precious environment.
PESP is a voluntary program to reduce the risks associated with pesticide use. In addition to formally signing a statement to support the goals of PESP, NaturaLawn of America will be writing goals that will describe a long-term strategic approach to pesticide risk reduction and annual, measurable activities.
NaturaLawn of America will join the Landscaping/ Turf sector, a sector that focuses on residential and commercial properties, public spaces, and golf courses. Within the sector, members can communicate concerns about pest management and work together to form new Integrated Pest Management (IPM) solutions to further reduce pesticide risks.
PESP was developed in February 1994, when federal agencies held a stakeholder workshop to gather their ideas, suggestions, and concerns about reducing pesticide use. A set of guidelines was created to guide the development of an appropriate program. As a result of that meeting, the EPA developed the PESP, a voluntary public/private partnership to reduce pesticide risk. The USDA took responsibility for the IPM commitment.
In December 1994, the EPA, USDA, and FDA issued a press release announcing the first six partners in PESP. In addition to "partners" that represent pesticide users, several organizations involved with pesticide issues expressed interest in also participating in PESP. Therefore, in 1996, the EPA added a "supporter" category to PESP to allow organizations that work with pesticide users to be recognized for their contributions to reducing risk, such as NaturaLawn of America. |
