Special Care for Newly Seeded Areas
Many lawns will suffer some type of damage during any given year. Some of these lawns will require overseeding or spot seeding. If seeding is required, please follow our seed selection and recommendations. Special care should be taken in newly seeded areas.
- When seeding, always choose a premium grass seed. The old adage "You get what you pay for" stands true for grass seed as well.
- Depending on the area you are located, fall is typically the time of year you would overseed your lawn.
- Loosen the soil surface with a garden rake to help prepare the seeding bed. Good seed- to-soil contact is essential for seed germination.
- We recommend that you use our Natural Alternative® Recuperator when seeding. Newly seeded lawns require specific nutrients to ensure a healthy grass plant. The Recuperator offers that PLUS, it has a plant growth activator on it which will further strengthen the root system, ensuring a healthier plant. This can be put down at the same time as the grass seed.
- Keep the soil moist. If possible, daily watering for 15 - 20 minutes until the seed germinates should be adequate.
- Do not mow areas until new seedlings are up about 3 inches. Use a sharp mower blade to prevent pulling seedlings out. If the lawn becomes too tall, mow the areas at a 3" cutting height or higher.
- Do not use any type of weed control or corn gluten product on the seeded area until the grass has been cut twice.
- Remember, Mother Nature takes time. Depending on the type of seed, germination can occur in seven days or as long as a month.
