2. Place the tweezers tips as close as possible to the skin where the mouthparts of the tick are attached and carefully pull the tick straight out.

3. Do not remove the tick with your hands as you may inadvertently squeeze more bacteria into the site.
4. Clean the area with alcohol as well as the tweezers and wash your hands immediately after.
5. Apply an “over the counter” antibacterial cream or spray.
6. Mark the date of removal on a calendar and watch for any rashes or other symptoms.
7. If a rash or other symptoms appear, contact your physician immediately.
8. Have the tick tested at your local agricultural experiment station.
